Pastor's Corner

Summer is here and many of us will be going different directions over the next couple months with travel or vacation. If you are away, please make visiting a church part of your Sunday routine and take note of fun ways they are welcoming visitors. Then, be sure to let us know so we can better greet and encourage our guest. Likewise, if you have out of town friends and family coming to SB, invite them to join our worship time. You never know when God will speak to someone’s heart. My college roommate came to faith while visiting me in Texas one Sunday some 40 years ago!

I am excited about the positive changes taking place at ELMO as we move forward in the vision:

FOLLOWING JESUS, WE LOVE, CONNECT, CARE, AND SERVE. Over the next few months we hope to create specific targets and programs that will invite participation by all the members.

We are also moving forward with the gracious dismissal and working with the presbytery to complete the process in early fall. Our leadership acknowledges the need for your prayers to make wise and discerning decisions. Therefore, we have dedicated JUNE as “PRAYER MONTH”.

ELMO will provide four times a week to gather in prayers during the month of June and ask that you join us in as many of the designated times as you can: Sunday @ 8:30am in the Library; Wednesday @ 9am and Noon in the Fireside Room; and Wednesday @ 7pm in the sanctuary.

I am also asking that everyone pray daily the Lord’s Prayer. Pause for a moment for each of the following four lines:

1. OUR FATHER, WHO ART IN HEAVEN HALLOWED BY THY NAME….

(Offer prayers of awe and wonder giving honor and adoration to our God in heaven, for who he is as our Father.)

2. THY KINGDOM COME, THY WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN…

(Pray for God’s purpose in your life and in the world around you by welcoming God’s rule in your life and in the world. Express your desire for God’s purposes to become you own.)

3. GIVE US THIS DAILY BREAD AND FORGIVE US OUR DEBTS AS WE FORGIVE OUR DEBTORS. AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL….

(Pray for your needs or the needs of other and for the wisdom to see His abundance.

Ask for God’s protection and generosity to those who have wronged us, and forgiveness for the wrong we have done to others. Pray for eyes to see God’s care for all)

4. FOR THINE IS THE KINDOM AND THE POWER AND THE GLORY FOREVER. AMEN

(Express your willingness or desire to submit to the reign of God, the control of God, and the worship of God. Commit your gifts to God’s purpose, offering all that you are and all that is yours back to the Lord.)
